MOUNT VERNON DISTRICT STATION

WARRANT SERVICE/FOOT PURSUIT/NARCOTICS/WEAPONS VIOLATIONS/ARREST: South Kings Highway/Brick Hearth Court, 10/24/17 around 8:20 p.m. Officers saw a man wanted out of Washington, D.C. for armed robbery walking with his pit bull and an acquaintance. The man ran off and officers chased him. The preliminary investigation reveals the dog charged at the officers, resulting in one of them firing his duty weapon. The pit bull was shot one time and did not survive. Shelton Coates, 26, of Alexandria, was arrested for a number of drug and weapon-related charges, including possession with intent to distribute cocaine and marijuana, and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon. The Metropolitan Police Department was notified of the arrest and responded to address its charges.

UNLAWFUL ENTRY/DESTRUCTION OF PROPERTY: 11900 block of Winterthur Lane, 10/25/17 around 2 p.m. Officers were called to check on a residence after it was believed someone was inside when no one should have been home. No one was found inside, but there was obvious damage throughout indicating someone had been.
