Driver Charged with DWI After Fatal Crash in Reston

Reston Police District – Our Crash Reconstruction Unit is investigating a fatal crash that happened yesterday afternoon at the intersection of Baron Cameron Avenue and Lake Fairfax Drive around 2:30 p.m.  A preliminary investigation revealed a 1987 Toyota MR2 was traveling south on Baron Cameron Avenue, approaching Lake Fairfax Drive, when it crossed the center median and struck a 2008 Porsche traveling northbound.  The passenger in the Toyota, 42-year-old Miguel Jimenez, of Falls Church, was taken to the hospital where he died of his injuries.

The driver, 45-year-old Jose Jimenez-Yapura, had non-life-threatening injuries.  Alcohol appears to be a factor and Jimenez-Yapura was charged with DWI.  It is unknown at this time whether speed was also a factor.  The driver of the Porsche, a 16-year-old, was not injured. The accident remains under investigation.
