FCPD‘s DWI Efforts Enhance Roadway Safety
Fairfax, VA – Summer may be winding down, but as we head into Labor Day weekend, the FCPD’s approach to proactive enforcement efforts remains a high priority. The Fairfax County Police Department is committed to improving the safety of our roadways and holding unsafe, aggressive, and impaired drivers accountable is part of our mission. The community plays an important role in reducing the overall number of impaired drivers on our roads, with the growing utilization of ride-share services contributing to the downward trend.

Throughout the last several years, FCPD has been increasing our efforts to combat drunk drivers on the roadways of Fairfax County. The FCPD has a dedicated DUI Enforcement Squad whose sole purpose is to look for impaired drivers. Year-to-date DUI arrests are on the rise as our officers from around the county have shown their dedication to the mission.

Recent efforts, such as our “Safe July” campaign, have yielded great results. FCPD employed data-informed decision-making to deploy officers from around the county to areas identified by our Crime Analysts as areas of concern in order to prevent, deter, and take impaired drivers off of the road.
Want to know how to spot an impaired driver on the roadway? Check out the video below and see an example of an erratic driver that was spotted by one of our officers this week. Officers arrested the driver in broad daylight for his second DUI within five years. If you see driving behavior like this, call 911 immediately as it may be an impaired driver or someone experiencing an emergency behind the wheel.
