Detectives Investigate Fatal Motorcycle Crash on Rt 28

Sully Police District – Detectives from our Crash Reconstruction Unit are investigating a fatal crash involving a motorcycle that occurred last night.

Last night at 9:01 p.m. officers responded to Route 28 northbound and Westfields Boulevard in Centreville for a crash involving a 2016 Acura TLX and a 2022 Kawasaki. Preliminarily, detectives determined the driver of the Acura was traveling northbound on Rt 28 prior to Westfields Blvd. Zafeer Piracha, 27, of Lorton, the driver of the Kawasaki, was also traveling northbound on Rt 28. The driver of the Acura struck Piracha causing him to separate from the motorcycle.

Piracha was pronounced deceased on scene. The other driver was taken to a local hospital with injuries considered not life-threatening. Detectives continue to investigate whether speed and/or alcohol were factors in the crash.

This is the 14th non-pedestrian-related fatal crash in the County to date in 2023. In 2022 there were 19 non-pedestrian-related fatal crashes.
