From Neighbor to Hero: Man arrested for Burglary and Assault

Mt. Vernon Police District – A neighbor comes to aid and a man has been arrested after breaking into a home and assaulting a woman.

On March 13, at 5:43 p.m. police responded to an apartment in the 4500 block of Colony Court in Woodlawn for a burglary of an occupied dwelling. The victim, an adult woman, was home alone when the suspect pushed his way into the unlocked front door and began assaulting her. The neighbor heard a struggle and assisted the victim in escaping the apartment and getting her to safety. Officers arrived on scene and observed Traynham exiting the victim’s apartment. Upon seeing police, he retreated inside the home. Officer then took Deon Omar Traynham, 32, of Alexandria into custody. Traynham was taken to the hospital for injuries unrelated to his arrest. While an officer was escorting him, Traynham kicked the officer multiple times.

Detectives obtained charges for Burglary with Intent to Commit Assault, Abduction, Assault and Battery, Assault on Law Enforcement Officer, and Obstruction of Justice. He was held on no bond.
