Out on Bond: Suspect Arrested After Breaking into Two Out-of-State Police Cruisers

Franconia Police District— Detectives from our Major Crimes Bureau arrested a man responsible for breaking into two out-of-state police cruisers and stealing police equipment overnight in Springfield.

On June 8, around 5:56 a.m., officers responded to the report of two marked police cruisers belonging to the Alachua County Sheriff’s Office (Florida) that were broken into in the 6500 block of Loisdale Road and 6700 block of Commerce Street in Springfield. The suspect stole several items of police gear from the cruisers.

Detectives reviewed surveillance footage and positively identified Samuel Lee Bucey, 39, of Washington, D.C., as the suspect for these larcenies. Bucey was identified after he was arrested on May 29 for an unrelated larceny charge and released on an unsecured bond.

On June 8, detectives from our Fugitive Tracking and Apprehension Unit, along with the assistance of the Metro Transit Police Department and United States Marshals Service, arrested Bucey in DC.  Bucey was charged with Grand Larceny of a Firearm, Grand Larceny, two counts of Felony Destruction of Property, Petit Larceny, Possession of a Firearm by a Convicted Felon, and Possession of Ammunition by a Convicted Felon.  Additionally, Bucey had an outstanding warrant for Burglary and is currently being held at the DC Central Detention Facility and will later be extradited to Fairfax County.
